i
Green Stonefly Nymphs, The Sallflies

This small family (Chloroperlidae) has three genera, containing 10 species, some of which are quite rare in Ohio. Half of the species are undescribed as nymphs. As adults they are called Green Stoneflies or, more commonly, Little Yellow Sallies. Both common names indicate their color as adults. The nymphs are small in body (usually 6-18 mm) and have rounded wingpads that are aimed straight back. The legs and tails (cerci) are relatively short; 3/4, or less as long as the abdomen. Adults appear in May and June.
